Sergio Mendes
Sergio Mendes Sérgio Santos Mendes (Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, February 11, 1941) is Brazilian musician, recognized internationally.
son of a doctor, Mendes studied music at the local conservatory with hopes of becoming a classical pianist. While his interest in jazz grew, he began playing in nightclubs in the 1950's, the time when the bossa nova was born. Mendes played with Antonio Carlos Jobim (regarded as the master of Mendes) and many U.S. jazz musicians who toured Brazil.
Subsequently, in 1961, Mendes formed the Sexteto Bossa Rio and recorded the album "Modern Dance." In a tour of Europe and the United States, Mendes recorded albums with Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Mann and came to play at Carnegie Hall. Mendes
settled permanently in the United States in 1964, where he enjoyed great popularity, came to compose the music for the film "The Look of Love" and even to give concerts for Presidents Lyndon B.
